Józef Mehoffer, Strange Garden (1902-1903)
Józef Mehoffer (1869-1946) was a Polish painter and stained glass artist, known for his exceptional contribution to the Art Nouveau movement in Poland. His works often showcased intricate details and vibrant colors, reflecting a deep appreciation for nature and symbolism.
Józef Mehoffer's work "Strange Garden" depicts an enchanting and otherworldly landscape that combines elements of fantasy and nature. The painting showcases a lush garden. In the painting, the artist portrays his wife Jadwiga, their son, and a caretaker. Mehoffer incorporates Art Nouveau motifs represented by an oversized dragonfly with supernatural dimensions.
This is one of my ever-favorite paintings. So, when shared a sketch of my latest work on Instagram stories, I asked my followers: “What should I add to the painting?”, and one of them answered: “a dragonfly", I immediately knew where to find a reference for it. If you compare my artwork above and Mehoffer’s painting, you’ll see the dragonflies are almost identical – and that’s my tribute to the painter’s magnificent work.
New classic
Alberto Mielgo, Jibaro, 2022
I first encountered Mielgo’s work when I watched Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and I was enchanted by his work. Then I watched his episode for the Love, Death & Robots anthology - season one (The Witness) and three (Jibaro).
I recommend you watch all three of these animations. Not convinced? Just take a look at this stunning work of art below:

I’m literally dying for this anime adaption of Junji Itou’s (Japanese master of horror manga) work. This trailer looks great, so yes, I still have hope – I do believe this anime is going to slay (and I’ve watched enough poor adaptations of Itou’s mangas to lose faith years ago 😅).
Go watch the third season of Netflix’s Witcher… said no one, never. BUT you can go play Gwent – it’s a great card game I’ve been playing for six (!) years now.
